Frequently asked questions
How do you count a cribbage hand?
With the starter card, count: every combination adding to 15 (2 points each), every pair (2), runs of 3 or more (1 per card), a flush (4 for four hand cards of one suit, 5 if the starter matches; the crib needs all 5), and nobs: the jack of the starter’s suit (1).
What is the best cribbage hand?
A 29: three 5s and the jack of the fourth suit in hand, with the matching 5 as the starter. Eight fifteens, six pairs and nobs.
Why can’t a hand score 19?
No combination of cards adds up to exactly 19 points, so players say “19” as a joke for a hand worth nothing.
Does it count pegging?
Use the +1 to +4 buttons in “Race to 121” for pegging points; the hand counter handles the show.
