Frequently asked questions
How does 501 darts scoring work?
Each player starts at 501 and subtracts the score of every turn (three darts). You must finish exactly on zero with a double or the bullseye (double out).
What is a bust?
Scoring more than you have left, leaving exactly 1, or reaching zero without a double. The turn doesn’t count and your score goes back to what it was.
What is the highest checkout?
170: treble 20, treble 20, bullseye. Some scores under 170 (159, 162, 163, 165, 166, 168, 169) can’t be finished in three darts.
Which checkout does it suggest?
The one with the fewest darts, preferring common finishing doubles (D20, D16, D18…). Players have their own favourites; any path that ends on a double works.
